:: bathroom barn door #3 ::

i just came across another terrific take on this yellow bathroom barn door that i love so much - and it's even better than the last (and maybe better than the first). i cannot tell you how much i love the wall color, the headboard (made of the same wood as the door), the throw, the pillows. it's so warm and cozy, yet modern and non-fussy.

i want to give this room a big hug followed by a high five.

:: one thing leads to another ::

from nude dresses to flutter sleeves to long sleeves to emerald green - there was plenty of overlapping with cuts and colors (or lack of) on the carpet last night at the golden globes. i think the award for most popular trend goes to the neutral/blush-tones gowns. (there were a ton!)

:: the sweetest sweet ::

"from the start i instantly made up my mind that you're the sweetest sweet that can be found"
- honeysuckle rose

when i think "honeysuckle" i think of a smell first, then a taste.

color comes third and it's a creamy yellow (sort of a combination of milky white and buttery yellow blossoms).

i have to keep thinking to picture pink flowers.

so it's a good thing i'm not in charge of naming pantone colors. or the color of the year, for that matter, since the official pantone color of 2011 is...honeysuckle!

the first photo (via flickr) makes my mouth water. i think i'm going to plant some honeysuckle in my backyard and let it go wild (as though i would have a choice). seems like 2011 would be a good year for that!

:: love wood grain ::

i love how faux wood grain can feel sleek & modern, quirky, retro, tacky, funny, warm - depending on the use or setting. i'm planning on staying away from at least one of those descriptions, but am incorporating some nifty wood grain goodies into my house.

i recently got this stick lamp for target (on sale for $14.99 less the $5 i found in the parking lot on my way in!) and love it on my living room bookshelf. i had it for about a week before i even turned it on and i like it even more when it's illuminated.
i got some of this contact paper last year when i was thinking of doing a ceramic wood tile backsplash in my kitchen. i cut strips of the contact paper the size of hard-wood planks and put it up to see if i wanted to go with the wood tiles. (i decided to color-block paint the backsplash, instead. for now.) i'm thinking of using the leftover paper for some gift-wrapping ideas this Christmas.
this plate (an old urban outfitters find) hangs on my kitchen wall, combining my love of wood grain and cute little birds.

* i haven't actually spent the $5 i found. it's still in my back pocket, freshly laundered, and might not ever leave. feels like some sort of good luck charm to me now.
