:: digging the longing ::

i looove this artwork.  the colors, the type, style, copy, images, content...all of it.

also a big fan of the concept.  many months ago i got a free-with-email-address download from all sons and daughters via noisetrade (unfortunately, the prone to wander ep is no longer available!) and received an email from them today, offering up a link to preview and pre-order their upcoming album.  i don't want to get too soap-boxy here, but if you're not going to give-give your music away, this is a smart way to semi-give it away and entice people to buy.

:: bathroom barn door #3 ::

i just came across another terrific take on this yellow bathroom barn door that i love so much - and it's even better than the last (and maybe better than the first). i cannot tell you how much i love the wall color, the headboard (made of the same wood as the door), the throw, the pillows. it's so warm and cozy, yet modern and non-fussy.

i want to give this room a big hug followed by a high five.

:: perfect inspiration ::

i want to put a sliding door over my laundry closet. (right now i have a curtain - it feels so dorm room/first (second, really) apartment to me. i want something more grown up/permanent, but normal doors will not sit flush because of the front loading doors.)

this would be perfect. in fact, i'd take the door, the wall color, the comforter, the throw, the floors, the tub...

:: hellow, love ::

my office is set up in what would be my dining room (if it wasn't my office). i removed the bar in my kitchen/dining room when i got new counter tops because i didn't think i'd ever use it as a sit-at bar. if i were going to have more than one other person over for dinner, he/she would have to bring a tv tray because i only have 2.

all that to say, my house is not really set up for proper (or even remotely proper) dining. as someone who loves to cook & eat and someone who loves to feed other people, this is a little strange and, at times, even frustrating. so i've been trying to come up with the -just right- solution to create a dining area in my kitchen.

and i'm getting closer.

i love the look of tulip tables. clean. simple. iconic. and while i appreciate the aesthetic of the whole pedestal group with the tulip chairs (fewer legs = less visual clutter), i like the idea of pairing the table with a less matchy-matchy, mid-century inspired chair. (this original eero saarinen set by knoll sold for $1,800-2,200)

today i decided to check in at cb2.com to see what was new, what was on sale. and a word caught my eye: "grellow." what? could it be? the description of the cool, more streamlined pedestal table reads, "our fave round...pops in our fave new grellow (grey + yellow)."

hellow, grellow!
can a color sell a product? yes.
can a color name sell a product? quite possibly.

:: happy accident ::

we (corey smith) had our big atlanta summer show this past saturday night in alpharetta (atlanta), ga at verizon wireless amphitheatre. an exciting night - we've sold out chastain park two years in a row, moved up to the bigger venue on the outskirts of town and still had over 6,000 people there! our publicists came in from nashville and our business manager was there, too. as we were standing around after the show i looked around and realized with had inadvertently dressed in a nice little showing of my favorite color combo. a pic for the blog was a must.
(high contrast due a broken camera - and our natural glow, of course.)

:: the color of truth ::

"the color of truth is gray." - andre gide

i remember when i fell in love with gray. it was 1995 and i was in the greenville mall parking lot, just outside montgomery ward. i wore a silvery gray top with my favorite jeans and brown not-quite-combat boots.

years (and two silver cars) later i painted my bedroom the most perfect shade of gray and decided that nothing - and i meant nothing - would be displayed in the room unless it was a shade of gray (silver included), green or brown. i even kept my alarm clock hidden until i was able to find a silver one with green digital numbers (but, admittedly, a black screen). obsessive? perhaps. inconvenient? most definitely. that room's decor was never completed, and i've yet to let go of the idea that i can decorate my bedroom with such strict color limitations. (currently, i'm aiming for chocolate brown, gray and white. only.)

in painting my first home i have found a new perfect gray (olympic "quill"). i still drive a silver car. and now i have a pretty big crush on yellow & gray. the serene with the perky. the masculine with the feminine. the light (or a dark, rich charcoal will do) with the bright.

much, much more to come on these two amazingly talented people, i'm sure. i came across Oh My Deer today and was immediately hooked! like a good book, i don't want to reach the end (or beginning) of the blog. it's just that good.
